Traditional Cuban music, the feeling of Buena Vista, the taste of sun and Caribbean sea salt on the tongue and the sound of pulsing music coming from patina-covered buildings of Havana: This is HABANA TRADICIONAL.
With Yaqueline Castellanos on their side, the stars from “Classic meets Cuba” – Alexis Herrera Estevez and Elio Rodriguez Luis – won a legend and THE Grande Dame of Cuban song gathering a top-class ensemble to bring this unique music to the European stages in a pure and authentic way.
Yaqueline Castellanos performed with the musicians of Buena Vista Social Club and started an international career with the number one hit “Como me ha insultado” in the United States. In her Cuban homeland, she was honoured as “Artista más popular de Cuba” (most popular Cuban artist) before she moved to Europe.
Cuba Percussion & Friends, the ensemble of the two percussionists from “Classic meets Cuba”, are forming the authentic and powerful basis of originals like “Chan Chan”, “Besame Mucho” and “Lagrimas Negras” with their traditional instrumentation of bongos, congas, guitar tres cubano and bass. Alexis Herrera Estevez and Elio Rodriguez Luis themselves have performed with Compay Segundo, Chucho Valdez and numerous other famous Cuban musicians. With their programme, they are now doing the legendary Cuban music tradition the honour and present – together with the “Grande Dame del Son” Yaqueline Castellanos – the music of the Caribbean sugar island with its rhythmic and melodic richness and emotional depth.
