Delfina Cheb

The award-winning successful producer and composer Javier Limón discovered the extraordinary talent in one of his lessons in Boston / USA: Delfina Cheb

At 18 years old Delfina Cheb was awarded a scholarship to get her double degree in Jazz Composition and Voice Performance at Berklee College of Music. There, she explored jazz and folkloric music from different regions such as South America, North America and The Balkans. She studied with Kenny Werner, Kurt Elling, Dominique Eade and Toninho Horta. Now she is getting her masters degree in Contemporary Improvisation at the New England Conservatory and has recorded her debut album with the acclaimed producer and composer Javier Limón “Doce Milongas de amor y un Tango Desesperado”.

The repertoire of the album has 13 tracks in which the traditional milonga is the starting point of a journey of roots and avant-garde. The album includes classic tango songs, songs composed by Delfina and Javier Limón, and a song by Jorge Drexler. It also has the special participation of Kiki Morente, the leading figure in flamenco and Nella, the last Latin Grammy Best New Artist winner.

The musicians who accompany Delfina in this trip are not only the usual ones from record label Casa Limón, such as Limón Jr. at the piano, the flamenco percussionist Piraña, or the Afro-Cuban bassist Dany Noel, but also a careful selection of prominent Argentinean tango and milonga musicians – all of them led by Horacio Avilano’s guitar and Lautaro Greco’s bandoneon. The team also counts on the presence of the Uruguayan Nando Michelin (the piano in Milonga Dulce), with lyrics by the great poet Dulce Chacón.

Javier Limón, an expert in revolutionizing Latin American and Mediterranean folklores, is a composer, producer and guitarist specialized in flamenco, jazz, Latin jazz and world music. Trained at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, he has developed his career around the world composing and producing artists as diverse as Paco de Lucía, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Caetano Veloso, Tom Harrell, Alicia Keys, Enrique & Estrella Morente, Diego El Cigala, Mariza, Anoushka Shankar among many others. More than 1000 musicians in his more than 100 productions thanks to which he has achieved multiple recognitions, such as his 10 Grammys, more than 20 gold and platinum records, the ONDAS award, the Rolling Stone award and the United Nations Women Together award.
