Manou Gallo

The Queen of Afro Groove

The bassist and singer from Côte d’Ivoire blends African rhythms, Afro-funk, jazz, and world music into a new style with a captivating stage presence. As an internationally acclaimed musician, Manou Gallo has collaborated with artists such as Bootsy Collins, Manu Dibango, and Wyclef Jean. Her distinctive bass and expressive voice shape a sound in which tradition and modernity complement each other in an exciting way.

Anyone who has seen her perform immediately recognizes her uniqueness: in her hands, the bass often becomes a percussion instrument, driving the groove to fascinating heights. It’s no surprise that Bootsy Collins calls her the “African Queen of Bass.”

Proud of her African roots, Gallo says she possesses the musical freedom to play anything she wants. And that very freedom comes alive on stage: an explosive mix of funk, jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and confident Afro-grooves.
